First, I want to say that my thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families in Boston and everyone who are affected by this tragedy.

Now, on to today’s post.

If there’s one thing that will never stop about the fashion industry, it’s the evolution of style. Despite the fact that a majority of clothing ideas are being borrowed from past trends and are just being recycled, the fusion between sartorial eras becomes more apparent, resulting into a newer, better trend.

Certainly, it’s to the advantage of the fashion lovers who will go just about all lengths to look good. But for those who simply want to discover their own styles, fashion evolution can get downright confusing.

Talented fashion designers from around the world will showcase their creatively done pieces in various runways here and there, and their collections can be as tempting as chocolate sundae on a hot weather. There are those few who will just go in blindly, and pick anything from the shelves, then put it together whichever way they please without caring for proper combination, never mind the importance of putting the right pieces together. But a person with a real sense of style will have full control of picking only those that will feel and look good on them.

If you’re currently lost but still want to be safe, here are 3 important notes to get you by:

Start with your shoes

Shoes say a lot about a person— are you sneakerhead who’s always on the go? A sexy and sophisticated stiletto girl who’s up for any party? How about a relaxed gal who looks carefree in her pair of boat shoes? Or maybe just a cute girl next door in her laidback Mary Janes?

People can wear all the trendiest outfits, but can still fail to translate their personalities through their look because their shoes just don’t reflect who they are. And whether we like it or not, the truth is that people are almost always judged by their appearance, so it’s up to us how we can leave a desirable impression.

Avoid overdoing things

Another important thing to note, beauty not only lies from within — in the real world, it’s found in the details tooquantity of details. Know when enough is really looks good enough. Don’t wear your whole wardrobe for one night out with your girlfriends. If you want to wear your silver sequined tube top, don’t pair it with your polka dot A-line skirt.

Match a plain top with a loud bib necklace. Or wear you boring skinny jeans with some buckled Fiorentini Baker boots. A balanced outfit needs balanced pieces that don’t overpower each other. People who wear really loud pieces don’t really make a statement— only their clothes do. Style is when you’re able to stand out from layers of clothing and not when you get eaten up by the latest pieces you got off the rack.

Don’t confuse comfort with style

Just because you can move a lot with what you’re wearing, doesn’t mean you should fill your closet with the same shirt and jogging pants and buy 10 more pairs of those sneakers, and label yourself as a carefree person. Unless you feel really good about yourself with those pieces and you’re not just being too lazy to dress up.

Don’t mind what the runways and magazines tell you. Know your sense of style and own it. If you feel 100% yourself with what you’re wearing, and the people around you agree with you, there’s no doubt you’ve found the one. It won’t take long before everyone else follows suit.

  1. Great post. I think the most important thing in finding your style is wearing things that make you feel comfortable and make you feel pretty. If you accomplish those 2 things then you’re set.
