I used to read books and magazines a lot. It was my escape and my way of dreaming. That all changed since the twins’ arrival. I don’t seem to have enough time to read a great novel (and I prefer to finish it within 3 days) nor spend endless hours flipping through magazines. I’m a visual person so whenever I see beautiful images from a book or a magazine I gravitate towards it. I would then carve out 15 minutes or an entire afternoon to soak up such pleasure. Such was the case with a book that I recently discovered, called Art & Sole by Jane Gershon Weitzman, wife of shoe designer Stuart Weitzman.
Art & Sole showcases approximately 150 shoes of the more than 1,000 Jane Weitzman discovered and commissioned for the windows of the first Stuart Weitzman retail shop on Madison Avenue in the mid-1990s. Using the best of this collection, many of the shoes are in printed form for the first time. With an introduction by Jane Weitzman, the shoes are featured along with brief, identifying captions, in an impeccably designed, graphically compelling, package making it a perfect gift for almost all occasions.
This book, covered with a vibrant red cloth case embossed with an elaborate crystal shoe on the front cover, is a great conversation starter for the shoe lovers, art enthusiasts, interior designers or fashionistas worldwide. The sculptures are beautiful and whimsical, which beg to be removed and framed. Art & Sole currently sits in my office not only as a decorative piece but also as an inspiration for my blog. After all, this blog is called Mama in Heels.
Disclosure: Although I was given this book to review from Jane Gershon Weitzman, all opinions are my own
