We truly believe that maintaining a healthy lifestyle within the family harmonizes the relationships, from making healthy dishes tasty to putting the fun back into exercising. We’ll talk recipes later, but now we want to share with you one of our favorite exercises, hiking. One of the best parts about living in Los Angeles is enjoying all its beauty. Los Angeles has undeniably great weather and scenic views from the ocean to the mountains. Living here allows us to be more adventurous on foot with our twins and hiking is one of our favorite past times.
This is our second post collaborating with Kimberly-Clark in celebrating their Family Values Program. Hiking is one of the ways we celebrate our family time together. We personally think everyone should hike because we all need nature and exposing to the natural world helps our well-being in ways that science is only recently beginning to understand.
To get our 4 yr. old twins excited about hiking, we usually shorten the route to no more than half an hour, with a 5 minute break in the middle, which includes their favorite snacks and beverages. Just like our car road trips, we would pack individual snacks packaged in ziploc bags. To enable them to feel a sense of accomplishment we choose trails that are not so hilly. One must keep in mind that one adult step is equivalent to about 4 steps for a toddler. As we hike we encourage them to take in the scenery, point out plants, rocks, insects, birds and other things adults usually take for granted. After all, hiking is about the journey not the destination.
Disclosure: Thank you Kimberly-Clark for sponsoring this post. As always,, all opinions are my own.

When I was little we hiked often…guess I have to motivate my parents again…I am really in the mood for going for a hike now 🙂
Thank you, Sabine! It’s really awesome to do 🙂
What a cute family. We love hiking here in Oregon too 🙂 such a great way to be healthy and involve the littles!
Thank you, Bethany! We would love to visit Oregon one of these days!!!
I looooove hiking. Best respite for the soul. With 3 kids, we prefer roadtrips to the hassle of traveling by air. So our destinations are often nature-oriented and we always try to get as much hiking in as possible. Great article.
Thank you, Anita!
