Happy Monday everyone! Hope your weekend was treating you well.
This week’s Outfit of the Week is my old striped maxi dress, which has been in heavy rotation for a few years but have not had a chance to feature it on this blog until now. Actually, I did try last summer but the pictures came out so blurry and dark that I skipped it entirely. This linen striped maxi dress, purchased from Gilt for $49, is one of my favorites for summer. An extremely versatile dress where I can dress it up with accessories, keep it low-key with sandals, or office appropriate by pairing with some structured items. Other than denim shorts, maxi dresses are a go-to summer uniform for me. To keep my maxi dresses flattering and stylish at all possible I always keep these tips in mind:
1) Go Low-Key. For a relaxed effect go low-key with your shoes. If you want to keep your pretty maxi dress from skimming the ground like I did with this look then aim for a low-heeled platforms or chunky heel sandals. You don’t want to trip when chasing your kids or anyone.
2) Undergarments is the Key. Make sure you have a convertible bra that works with every style. I wore a beige convertible bra for this maxi dress to keep everything in place because I didn’t want to show any bra straps.
3) Layering. Layering is fine in the summer to keep you from freezing inside. Bring a scarf or a light jacket with you. My favorite jacket for summer is a denim jacket. Or, pair with a structured blazer to make it office appropriate.
4) Interesting Accessories. Add accessories because you can fancy the maxi dress up or a lot with interesting accessories. For this look I added a straw hat to keep the sun out and finished the look with layered necklaces.
With these tips in mind I hope you will keep wearing your maxi dresses and mix them up because you will fall in love with them each time. Don’t have one? No worries, here’s a roundup of some affordable but chic pieces.
