I know I sound like a broken record but the key to elevate any style lies in accessories. Choosing the right jewelry and how you wear them define your look.  You probably have noticed editors, bloggers, and actresses wearing several necklaces at one time. This type of accessorizing is called layering necklaces amd it is very of-the-moment.  Here are some tips to help you look trendy and fashion forward by remixing your old and new baubles.

1. Start with a necklace that you love.

One necklace looks great on any outfit but layering your necklaces can turn that outfit from great to wow. When layering, start with a necklace that you love and build from there. This can be a locket, pearl strand, or any necklace that you have. Once you have selected the necklace you can use this as the base to plan your other pieces around.  Select pieces that compliment this necklace and detract from it.

2. Group by numbers.

Odd numbers work best when it comes to most layering but that’s just rules.  Although the preference is having groups of 3, 5 or 7 which will give your layered look a clear understanding of beginning, middle, and an end, you can still pull off an even number grouping.

3. The length matters.

The length of your chain does matter. If the necklaces are too similar in length there might be a chance of getting tangled. If the length is too sparse then it may look awkward and not pleasing to the eye.  A good rule of thumb is to have at least 2 inch difference in length between each necklace. This will ensure them hanging freely and each necklace will be seen.

Don’t be afraid to mix and match different necklace/pearl sizes and lengths. I wrapped my vintage pearl necklace twice for a layered look, then added the handmade pearl choker from Milk Velvet Pearls, for a personalized touch.  This pearl necklace was hand tied on pink silk thread, accented with a pink quartz.  I recently discovered Milk Velvet Pearls and am absolutely in love with their products.  All their pearls are handmade that are fashion forward.  You can check out their entire collection here and won’t be disappointed.

Remember, try to have fun when layering necklaces and don’t be afraid to experiment because you never know what look you conjured up.

P.S.  The bow that came with the top is actually very nice when tied properly and not being pulled by your kids!
