Let’s face it, being over 40 has its own challenges, especially when it comes to shopping for clothes. I personally struggle with it because I don’t want to look like a teenager nor do I want to dress over my age. I want my style to look youthful, classy, and modern.
Since so many of you are asking how I shop at trendy stores and yet my style still look age appropriate, I thought I should share which stores I trudge often and the decision making process when it comes to shopping at these stores. Basically, I like to pick and choose quality pieces that are neutral in color.
Here are a handful of stores that I regularly shop to maintain that aesthetic style. Yes, you can shop there too! Some of these stores are having some major sales right now so it’s the perfect time to update your wardrobe and stay in style!
JCREW – I have been a longtime fan of this brand. Their clothes are well made and fit well for my petite frame. Even though they do offer more affordable options, but more often than not, they are quite expensive. I don’t think I have ever purchased anything at full price from this store. So, whenever there’s a sale (like right now up to extra 50% off) I pounce on it! Here are some of my favorite finds from this sale that I love…

H&M – My first exposure to H&M was in September 2001 while vacationing in England and France. I thought I found the treasure to clothing. This store was not available in the states at the time and I literally shopped till I dropped. I bought 2 suitcases of clothing from this store and wore every single piece almost everyday. Now, I no longer need to travel to England or France to get my hands on their clothes. I subscribe to their newsletter so I often receive special discount codes. Here’s a list of my favorites from this season…

Topshop – Just like H&M I discovered Topshop in London, England at the same time. My favorite purchase at the time was a pair of stretch hip hugging jeans. The fit was perfect and no alterations were needed anywhere. I wore that pair for 7 years and had to let it go because they were torn everywhere (thinking back in hindsight, I should have kept that because ripped jeans are so on-trend right now!). They are having a major sale right now with up to 50% off and these are additions to add to your wardrobe…

Madewell – Believe it or not I didn’t discover Madewell ’till a few years ago. I know…it’s been around in ages. I love their clothing. They are casual and laid back…very California. I love shopping their online store than their brick and mortar because they have better options. Right now they are having this major sale with 30% EXTRA OFF with code EXTRA30. Here are some of my favorite items.

Zara – What can I say about Zara!? I first discovered Zara back in 2003 but didn’t buy any of their clothes. I mean, they were really nice and affordable but the fit was awful. I couldn’t find a size that would fit me right, not even alterations can save the day. But lately, I would say for the past couple years, their sizing was good. I think they changed the fit model. Anyhow, their clothes rock and they are having a semi annual sale right now as well. Here are my faves.

Happy shopping and have a great weekend. Until then, I will see you on the blog next week!
