Birthdays only come around once a year, so it’s important to show that we care on these special days. We have friends and family from different parts of the globe and planning for months before the big day celebration can be a challenge. We just came back visiting my in-laws after celebrating my mother-in-law’s birthday in Quebec, Old Quebec city to be specific. Earlier of this year we decided to celebrate my mother-in-law’s birthday in a city that was close to her home but she had never visited before.
After months of planning and hours of train ride, we did not anticipate what was about to transpire. Within a few minutes of our arrival, the temperature dropped to low 60s, rain started to pour with gusty winds. Of course, we planned and packed accordingly…for warm weather.
This unexpected weather change did not stop us from celebrating my mother-in-law’s birthday. Throughout our stay in Old Quebec City, we trekked this beautiful city with rain ponchos and horse rides one step at a time.
We ended the trip with a birthday celebration at a restaurant with this special birthday card from Hallmark that I had picked up at Walgreens before the trip to wish her the best of everything. I have to admit, I love shopping at Walgreens because it is my go-to store to find any items I need as well as the perfect Hallmark card for any occasion. And who can deny how convenient they are – in and out within seconds!
We all know there isn’t a perfect parenting system that guarantees children will turn out okay. Every child is born pure but it is the environment created by his parents that determines his future. My mother-in-law had a lot of challenges during the years but she kept the family as one unit regardless. Thanks to her and her husband, hubby turned out better than okay. It’s definitely a lot less work for me!
I have to pinch myself from time to time because I am the luckiest girl in the world. Not only do I have a loving, supportive husband but my in-laws are a gem to be with. They’ve been so welcoming and supportive since day one.
My mother-in-law is a very special woman. She’s never once interfere with our relationship. To this day, she is still very supportive and never once inject herself to tell us how we should raise our kids. She’s a very understanding woman and those women are rare nowadays.
It takes a very confident woman to let go of her son to be cared for and loved by another woman after years of a relationship that is built on a long history of knowing each other, a history that begins even before birth. But, my mother-in-law knew that hubby will be in good hands and that her son’s love for her will never change or dissipate.
She’s someone that I look up to where it is possible to have a kick-ass healthy relationship with my future in-laws and create harmony within the family. There’s so much to look forward to and I’m ready for that marvelous journey ahead.
Thank you Hallmark at Walgreens for sponsoring my story for their #HallmarkAtWalgreens #CardsAndCake campaign.
