This may be a surprise to you but I have a very tight wardrobe budget. When you are into fashion it can be an uphill battle. It’s not easy to keep up with the Fashion Joneses. But do you need to?
Over the years I have mastered the art of what to invest and what to splurge when it comes to fashion while updating my look and not going over my budget.
As you’ve probably noticed, I love to mix and match my outfits not just high and low but also classic and trendy. I invest in classics like denim, button down shirts, cashmere sweaters, pencil skirts, structured handbags, and simple pumps.
You don’t have to invest a lot of money on disposable trends because they will go out of style faster than you think. I know, it is so hard to resist these tantalizing trends season after season. But mixing trendy pieces from the affordable stores like H&M, ASOS, Pixie Market, and Topshop with classic items can save you so much money while not getting stuck in time.
One of my favorite trendy pieces that I have been wearing non-stop is this bell sleeve blouse from H&M that I snagged for $17. I wore it with my old denim (6 yrs old) and a gray cardigan here but there are many outfit variations that I can transform from this blouse alone, like pairing it with a pencil skirt, midi skirt, flared denim, flared trousers, or skinny denim. Talk about endless styles from a $17 blouse.
So far, my tight wardrobe budget has not stopped me from looking my best.

WOW – you had me at the bell sleeve.
AND WHAT H&M?! I cant believe it!
Thank you, Lorena. Yep, it’s from H&M, and the quality is better than expected!!!
Hi. Love your style. I work full-time and I’m a part-time student. I can’t buy the kind of clothes I used to buy before I was a student – I find sticking to my budget quite a challenge sometimes. Most of my “extra” money goes into tuition, books and student fees. Thank you for your sharing your tip re H&M (and like stores). It’s much appreciated.
You are welcome, Elaine!
Great post! I like the ides of “shopping your closet” and mixing and matching to create new outfits. Love your sense of style. This sort of pairing makes it doable for those of us with real budget constraints. I am inspired! Thank you!
Thank you stopping by, Melissa. Being able to remix items in my closet makes me happy, not to mention my wallet is also happy.
