I love flower arrangements. Every single year I purchase flowers from the supermarket or LA Flower Market and make my own centerpieces for our Christmas Eve dinner. Although centerpieces are conviently available online I prefer to make my own because they can get very expensive starting at least $30 each. I usually need more than two so that can add up.
To save money, especially during the holidays, I make my own flower arrangements that cost next to nothing by mixing herbs with seasonal flowers. Not only do they look nice they smell heavenly without putting a dent in my wallet.
Here, I used oregano and rosemary from my garden and bought tulips, daisies, and eucalyptus from Trader Joe’s. I spent $16 on the flowers and was able to make three flower arrangements. Here’s how I grouped them together.
STEP 1 Using the knife, carefully cut the foam so that it fits inside the box (don’t worry about cutting it perfectly).
STEP 2 Rest the floral foam inside the wooden planter box.
STEP 3 Start with a large flower, like the daisy, and use a scissor or pruner to cut the flower’s stem. Insert the flower into the foam at the four corners and middle.
STEP 4 Repeat with the tulips, placing them between the daisies.
STEP 5 Cut the rosemary, oregano, and eucalyptus place them in the spaces. Voila, there’s your holiday centerpiece!
I used to be intimidated by flower arrangements but one year I forgot to order the centerpieces and I had to make my own hours before the dinner party starts. I realized that the more I practice the better I get.
For the past few years I have been making flower arrangements on my own and this one here took me less than 30 minutes to make all three centerpieces. If you are new to this it may take a little longer but if you follow my steps it should be quite simple and fast!
