I wear a lot of leather and suede shoes and carry a lot of leather bags. Leather shoes and bags are relatively easy to care for, but suede has a mind of its own – it requires more maintenance than other materials.
I have a few suede shoes that I wear repeatedly regardless of the weather, well maybe not in the rain. Whenever there’s rain I tend to wear my patent booties and not my suede shoes to avoid discoloring, water staining, and stiffness on my suede shoes.
But then I discovered Magic Spray, a stain, and water repellent spray made with no chemicals, a few weeks ago, everything changed! This water repellent spray is known for non-toxic and eco-friendly but I think this $14.95 repellent spray deserves more than its praise.
Magic Spray is a waterlike mixture (made with 100% non-toxic and eco-friendly ingredients) creates an invisible and breathable coating on your shoes and bags that prevent water damage, repels liquids and oils, prevents dust buildup and protects against UV color fading (UV resistant). It can be used on suede, nubuck, soft leathers, canvas, and other absorbent fabrics. The amount of spray needed depends on the porousness of the fabric. This water repellent spray is non-aerosol, non-flammable and completely odorless.
Here’s how to use it:
I mist the solution all over my suede pumps at a distance of about 2 to 4 inches away until the surface is damp everywhere. Gently rub the spray into the surface with a soft clean brush (you can use a soft toothbrush) to help the solution bond with the surface. After one coat, I let my shoes dry for 15 minutes, then repeat the spray-and-dry process one more time. Leave to air dry for 24 hours. Then test the protection level by putting a small amount of water on your shoe or bag to see if it rolls off. If necessary re-apply to make sure the entire surface is covered and protected. Then in another 24 hours, they’re ready to wear.
Two days after I treated my yellow suede pumps with Magic Spray my kids accidentally spilled some milk on them and the liquid completely fell off the shoes with no hint of any milk mark.
Thanks to Magic Spray I no longer have to dread what shoes I should put on during the rainy season because I now have options. My go-to shoes in the rainy season will no doubt be these yellow suede pumps as well as other suede booties.
