The button-down shirt is my unsung wardrobe hero. It is a classic, chic look that never goes out of style and looks appropriate in almost every sartorial scenario. It is essentially a wardrobe necessary to pair with all of the statement pieces.
But even more so if the button down shirt is refreshed with a wide, overlapping, asymmetric cuff like this Italian stretch fabric shirt in these photos. This is by far my favorite white button down shirt because by pairing it with a skirt or trousers it is office friendly. In contrast, it can be worn on a date night simply by pairing it with a midi/maxi skirt and switch out the shoes. And yes, this shirt can take center stage on the red carpet by pairing it with a ballgown skirt.
Do you also have an unsung wardrobe hero in your closet that you can get great mileage out of it?

I totally get this post. I have a white button down with a tuxedo front (actually, I bought two of them because of the versatility) that I wear a lot. Despite the fact that it has to be washed in cold water, hung to dry, and the work it takes to iron and starch it due to the front, I still find this shirt an easy choice when getting ready for work. It makes me feel put together and crisp when I wear it. It seems to make the outfit come together without looking like I tried too hard.
