Every season I scour the internet and shop for affordable pieces to update my work wardrobe. If you work in an office environment like me then you know you need to set aside a said wardrobe budget every season to update your go-to office uniform. This can be very expensive. I love fashion but don’t want to spend a fortune every season to update and modernize my look.
Keep in mind that the trends I’m about to share with you are not new – they are refreshed, repackaged and redesigned. If you already have these items in your closet, by all means, take them out to play. If not, then take a look at some of these affordable options I have curated for you…
SWEATER DRESSES

The sweater dress is not a new trend but it’s getting more attention this season with a twist. I see a lot of sweater dresses with ruffles and balloon sleeves. They are playful yet keep you warm at the same time. They pair well with knee-high boots or booties and are office-friendly.
PLAIDS

Another trend that is emerging this fall is not new either but the rainbow plaids are having a moment. The plaid pattern has been around forever and it is a classic style that lasts season after season. To look office-appropriate, I love mixing a neutral top with a colorful plaid skirt/trousers or vice versa. If you want to have fun with this print after work then go matchy-matchy.
KNEE-HIGH BOOTS

I’m short so I have a tendency to avoid wearing thigh-high boots because they tend to make my legs look shorter. I prefer to wear knee-high boots because they sit just above my knees and give the elusion of longer legs. This season there’s good news and bad news for me. It’s great because I have so many options to choose from. It’s bad cuz it’s bad on my wallet!!!
LEOPARD PRINT
[show_shopthepost_widget id=”3779667″]
I’ve never met a leopard print I didn’t like! Maybe because Leopards have long been seen as fierce, very resilient animals?! Take one look in my closet and you will see leopard print skirts, blazers, dresses, trousers, bags, and everything else. I wrote a post about how to wear this print in general. This is another trend that keeps coming back season after season. This print is a classic and very versatile to style – the perfect recipe for an investment item.
REAL/FAUX LEATHER
[show_shopthepost_widget id=”3779671″]
Perhaps the most exciting fall trend that I’m most excited to explore is leather – real or faux! Yes, this is not a new trend either but what I love about it now is that there are more colors and styles to choose from than before. Although leather may seem a little difficult to wear and it isn’t something one would usually wear to work there are workarounds that make it office-friendly. I would avoid leather minis unless I’m planning on wearing very dark opaque tights. I would also avoid overly embellished loud details on the leather items.
MOODY FLORALS
[show_shopthepost_widget id=”3779670″]
When I hear florals I immediately think of flowers associated with joy and brightness. However, this fall, moody floral is all about big, lush flowers with a solemn tone. But the trend is far from melancholy. In fact, colors in blue, berry, deep red and orange are stylish and fascinating in their own way.
The key to mixing these trends is to incorporate classic styles you already own to update your work wardrobe. So, never throw away your structured handbag, pumps, and jeans because they are the perfect classic pieces to bridge the trendy pieces to modernize your look.
