I’m aging and so is my skin. It’s natural and expected. Although I hit at an age where wrinkles and age spots are part of my life I do what I can to ensure that my skin stays smooth, healthy, and youthful. Even though I perform a 10 step skincare process on a daily basis my skin health starts from within and it is a holistic approach. How you habitually and intentionally take care of your body sets the foundation for gorgeous, healthy, youthful skin. Here are my 6 habits I follow religiously and I’m still learning new ways every day to care for my skin and health…
1. EATING HABITS
I eat organic as much as I can and stay away from processed food and limit my intake of butter, sugar, and salt. I’m working on limiting my wine but that’s a hard one to give up.
2. SUPPLEMENTS
I take my vitamins and supplements religiously to boost my immune system on a daily basis. I take vitamins C & D, Zinc, Probiotics at night and one scoop of collagen peptides with my coffee every morning.
3. STAY HYDRATED
I drink tea and water throughout the day to keep my system and skin hydrated.
4. A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP
I can’t stress enough the importance of a good night’s sleep – it totally sets the tone for the day. I always aim for 7 to 8 hours of sleep every night so that I’m fully charged for the day. My secret sauce is a nice warm bath with meditation. This relaxes my body and soothes my mind for the night.
5. KEEP MOVING
I often talk about the importance of exercising, especially when you are approaching menopause. A loss of muscle mass during menopause may also occur at a higher rate than before. Practicing yoga, running, or just walking can help reduce the loss of bone density and muscle mass. It also increases blood flow to help nourish skin cells and keep them vital.
6. RIGHT PRODUCTS
Using the right skincare products for your skin makes a huge difference. My daily skincare routine includes SPF, Vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, peptides, argan oil, and my secret weapon Tretinoin (Vitamin A).
You can aim to resolve your skin issues with Botox and fillers and there’s nothing wrong with that. However, Botox and fillers can’t tackle the texture or any skin conditions as well as a cream, and cream can never replace the effectiveness of Botox. My approach is a bit old-fashioned but it works for me because practicing all the above steps not only improves the texture of my skin but boosts my immune system overall.
