If you’ve been following me on Instagram then you know I hit the flea market a couple weekends ago.  So, did I take the vintage hat home?  Read on and find out…

The last time I visited the Rose Bowl Flea Market or any flea market for that matter was 8 years ago.  Since I was in the mood to revamp our living and dining rooms, I invited my sister to trek around the bowl for some treasure finds, specifically furniture for myself.  When I went to pick her up that morning the first thing she asked me was “did you bring cash or check with you?”.  My answer, “no, doesn’t everyone have a smartphone now where they can just run your card through?”  So, with a bottle of water and $20 in cash (enough for the admission fee and possibly a sandwich) we went straight to the bowl.

First stop, a real fur cape…she was gorgeous and only $40…but too real so I couldn’t take her home.  Second stop, a beautiful vintage hat for $35 & the seller accepted cash or check only.  My sister would loan me the money but it wouldn’t be right because she was planning to buy something for herself.  Every booth we stopped by they all wanted cash or checks, no cards accepted whatsoever!   Yes, there was an ATM machine but I refused to pay the fees!!!  Two and a half hours later on our way out,, we saw this stand full of cashmere sweaters with starting price at $5.  My sister dove right in but my eyes were fixated at this basket full of silk scarves…asking price, 2 for $5!  I found 2 and this blue color is one of them. The price was so low and reasonable that I didn’t even haggle.

I really enjoyed my visit even though I couldn’t buy anything.  Then again, had I bought my checkbook and cash I would taken the hat, the vintage ring, 14k gold filled bangles and the Gucci tote home with me.  Conceptually, this experience taught me to always bring cash or checks to the flea market.  Realistically, it taught me to be more disciplined on my impulse buying, which wasn’t a bad thing.

P.S.  Mama in Heels is nominated for Blog Influencer of the Year from Voiceboks.  It would mean the world to me if you could spare 30 seconds to vote for me here by clicking on the thumbs up!  100% of the winning proceeds will go towards my favorite charity, St Jude Research Hosital! Thank you so much for your support!!!

  1. That used to be me, always with a credit card and never with cash, but in Italy I’ve learned that NO ONE accepts cards…not even debit!

You are so lucky that they had that bin of great cheap scarves, I cannot walk away from a vintage sale without SOMETHING in hand!

Thank you so much for joining the #reasonstodress real mom street style linkup, if you have time on Tuesday I’d love to have you back!
