I don’t have deep pockets when it comes to buying clothes or anything for that matter. Like most women I have a certain clothing budget that I adhere to…not very successful at times but I do try. To give my outfits more mileage I shop for pieces that are affordable and transformable, pieces that can wear season after season and still look stylish. These pieces are typically classic and timeless and in neutral colors.
One piece from my closet in particular never fits that bill is a white gilet from Topshop that’s made of faux fur. I bought this vest a couple years ago and shared it here on the blog a couple times. It was one of those trendy pieces that I thought I would cycle in and out very quickly. For some reason, it stayed in my closet because I just couldn’t let it go.
Last week I decided to layer the gilet over my jacket because it was quite cold but not so cold that I had to wear a heavy coat. When G saw me walking out of my closet the first thing he said was, “Is that new?”. “Ahh…no, you don’t remember me wearing this last year and the year before?”. He thought it was a brand new faux fur jacket! Well, it was because I layered it over a jacket and it fashionably mutated as a faux fur jacket!
A couple days later I wore the gilet again but this time it was over a black cashmere turtleneck. To give the outfit some oomph I added a statement necklace to finish the look. I’m now adding the gilet to my classic and timeless capsule wardrobe…let’s hope faux fur keeps coming back every season! Who knew that an on-sale trendy vest lasted this long and saved me so much money.
