Happy Monday and greetings from Las Vegas!

If you have been following me by way of Instagram, then you know that hubby & I  were in Las Vegas a couple weekends ago without the kids.  These pictures were taken then but because I left my memory card at our Vegas home I couldn’t publish these photos until now.  Vegas is a place we used to call home for over 5 yrs.  We go back quite often with the twins, usually during a long weekend holiday.  Let’s save the topic for another time as to why we moved back to LA.

Today I’d like to focus on how to pack for a Las Vegas weekend getaway in the summer heat.  Yes, the average temperature there is 104 from late April to early October. Every. Single. Year. Seriously.  Oh, it never gets cooler at night like most cities.  Sometimes the temperature is over 110 but it’s dry heat so you won’t sweat like a hog and smell like a pig.

In Vegas, expect to walk a lot inside the casinos during the day and on the strip at night.   To keep yourself looking chic and cool while enjoying this mini getaway, here are some tips for packing.

  1. Three dresses:  I know I only need two but I always bring an extra dress just in case.  I love packing a versatile dress like this cotton trapeze dress.  I can wear it as a pool cover-up during the day and elevate the look by adding some accessories and heels at night.
  2. A pair of shorts:  I love shorts in the summer and I always opt for a pair of denim shorts because they are versatile and comfortable.
  3. Two t-shirts:  I love my Vince t-shirts.  I bough a whole collection in grey, white, and stripes from Shopbop when they were on sale a while ago.  For this trip I wore my white and stripe t-shirts and paired them with my denim shorts for my round trip travel.
  4. Kimono or light jacket:  I brought a kimono with me but didn’t have to wear it because we didn’t go inside any casinos at all.  It was so light though that I was able to carry it in my small purse.
  5. Flip-Flops:  I have a couple pairs that I wear quite often.  I travel with them too because they are comfy.  Trust me, your feet will thank you after.
  6. Chunky heel sandals:  These are my absolute favorites because they are light, stylish, and comfortable for day or night.  The perfect shoes for any getaway in the summer.
  7. Bathing suit:  Most hotels have swimming pools so bring your bathing suit to just relax and stay cool with a glass of Cosmopolitan.
  8. SPF 50:  You need this not just for your face but also for your body.  The sun is particularly strong in Vegas so protect your health.
  9. Sunglasses:  I brought a pair of sunglasses with me but left them at the bus.  Thank goodness it was only $20 from Forever21.  So I had no choice but to purchase a new pair.
  10. A Straw hat:  I always bring a hat with me whenever I’m out in the sun.  That way my face is triple protected during the day.
  11. Bling Bling:  Yes, don’t forget your accessories because Vegas is all about glitz and bold.
  12. A water bottle:  I can’t stress how important it is to bring a water bottle with you.  I got heat stroke once and never allowed that to happen again.  You have to drink more than 8 glasses of water a day.  I say at least 14 glasses.  I hate to say it but your wrinkles will be deeper and your skin will be very dry so drink lots and lots of water throughout the day to keep your skin hydrated and from wrinkles deepening.
  13. Handbag:  I don’t like to carry big totes in the heat because adding more weight while walking under the sun is not a good idea.  The one that I carried in these photos is small enough to put my essentials like my sunglasses, wallet, phone, lipstick, and a small bottle of water.  A light crossbody bag is also a great option.

I hope these tips will help you pack for your next weekend getaway to Vegas since labor day is just around the corner and triple-digit heat is expected!

Thank you for stopping by, Betsy! Vegas is a fun place for adults and kids. My favorite time of year would have to be late fall and early winter because I prefer the cold than the heat.

  1. I love this! I recently posted an article about packing for Vegas but yours is so simple and clean! Very awesome! I really like how you’ve incorporated the Shop The Look and Recommended Packing Items. How’d you do that? 😛
