First and foremost, Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families affected directly and indirectly by the London Bridge and Borough Market attacks.

Now on to today’s post from a guest collaboration written by Tricia Greene.Family holidays are a rare chance to get away from the normal routine and spend some quality time together. On holiday, some of the best memories are made. But it can be difficult to get the time and budget together to be able to go away. So when you can, it’s important to find somewhere all of your family will enjoy. For some inspiration, we’ve gathered seven places you might not have thought about. Check them out:

1. Thailand

With amazing beaches, tropical climate, fantastic food and all for a great price, Thailand is a great place to visit as a family. If you stay clear of Patong and Koh Phangan’s famous full moon parties, you’ll hardly notice it’s also a popular destination for gap year travelers. Instead, you can explore jungles in the north and visit some beautiful islands further south.

2. Ibiza

Despite its reputation as the go-to island for parties, Ibiza also caters for families. Head away from San Antonio and further towards the north coast, and you’ll find small sandy coves and beaches ideal for children with white sand and shallow waters, where snorkeling is a must. As The Guardian says, don’t let anyone tell you you’re too old – or young – to visit Ibiza. It’s perfect for families of all ages.

3. Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve

If it’s adventure you’re after, we recommend heading to Dubai. You’ll have to hold tight as you head off into the desert, crisscrossing the dunes. But it can all be done from the comfort of a four-wheeled drive, according to the Secret Traveller, from which you can take in the stark, stunning Arabian scenery. Next up, have a guided camel trek, or experience the thrill of sandboarding.

4. Switzerland

When you think of Switzerland, you probably think of skiing. But it’s also the perfect destination for a family summer holiday. With bright blue lakes and stunning mountainsides, it’s great for those who like to stay active. For most of the year, you can still use the ski lifts to get to the top and explore.

5. Costa Rica

Have you got older kids that love an adventure? Costa Rica is the place for your family, according to Mr Fox Magazine. They suggest starting from the Caribbean coast before heading west, and exploring Tortuguero National Park with its rainforest waterways, and beaches where green turtles come to lay their eggs in summer. There’s also the volcanoes and cloudforests of the country’s central spine. Without a doubt, seeing a live volcano in action is something your family will never forget.

6. Wales

Cornwall is among the most popular family holiday destinations in the UK – but it tends to get crowded in the summer. Wales offers similar beautiful beaches and plenty of day trips to keep little ones entertainment – without the crowds of Cornwall. At Surf Snowdonia, for instance, they can play on a water inflatable course (must be over 12 years old), learn to surf or tire themselves at the soft play.

7. Croatia

Along with great beaches, Croatia also offers a slice of culture and history. The car-free old towns of Dubrovnik and Korčula are the perfect places to stroll safely. You could also time your holiday with the renowned International Children’s Festival in late June/early July. Hosted by the coastal city of Šibenik, The Lonely Planet says it’s perfect for families as it offers craft workshops, music, dance, children’s film and theatre, puppets and parades. Plenty to keep everyone happy.
