A friend of ours was visiting last week and wanted to have dinner with us before heading back to London. It was a last minute dinner and I was looking for something comfortable and casual to wear. I chose this jersey dress from Ann Taylor that’s been sitting in the closet forever and decided on pairing this dress with this bracelet from Until There’s A Cure. This bracelet, known as “The World Bracelet” is made of a mosaic of colored beads where each color stone represents a different group that is affected by HIV/AIDS.
I want to thank Until There’s A Cure for sending me this amazing bracelet I admire their ingenuity in creating symbolic bracelets to raise funds and awareness for this pandemic disease. The World Bracelet is a symbol of the connection that people who are infected with this disease all have to one another, independent of HIV status. This is one of my favorite bracelets. I love the colors of these beads and they go with almost every outfit regardless of the outfit color! You can check out their entire collection here. Proceeds from this bracelet and all their products go to help fund HIV/AIDS awareness, prevention education, care services and vaccine development.
This bracelet opened up the HIV/AIDS conversation during dinner, and we learned from our friend that he has friends who are HIV positive and are still battling this deadly disease. No matter who you talk to, there will always be someone who is or who knew someone that has contracted this disease. There are more than 34 million people worldwide now live with HIV/AIDS. 3.3 million of them are under the age of 15. Everyday nearly 7,000 people contract HIV. After three decades of the AIDS pandemic, the cure for HIV is closer than ever before. We need to help to end this pandemic disease.
We know that Medical research has made great progress in the treatment of AIDS and HIV infection. However, many vaccine development research projects are still underway. The expectation is that vaccines which will truly end the pandemic are still years away. I think Donna J Allen, Until There’s a Cure Board Chair, summed it up eloquently…” While we have hope, until that day, critically important work in education and prevention must go on.” So, let’s help support this great cause and end this deadly disease!
