I walked out the house in this red coat last week when the temperature dipped in the 60s briefly here in Los Angeles. Frankly, it is rare that I wear bold color coats in winter, let alone a red one.
As we all know it, red is the color of love and passion. Wearing red can be intimidating because it is so bold, especially if you don’t like the attention. Even though I love wearing neutral colors because they are so easy to mix and match, no one can dispute that injecting a color can amp up an entire outfit, especially if it is the color of red.
While most of my favorite fashion glossies proclaim that red is making a comeback, believe me when I say it never left. My closet can attest that red is not my #1 favorite color but it sure is a runner-up. You can find several pairs of red shoes, a few red dresses, a couple red bags, and even a red beret. So, I’ve been collecting red because it’s a timeless color.
I personally think anyone can wear red with confidence if you follow some fashion rules. If you want to give a try in wearing a red coat this winter, the following tips that I abide by religiously can surely help you glide through the cyclone bomb in a sea of black, brown, camel, and white coats effortlessly.
SAME HUE
Go all red and balance the color aesthetic with a neutral color like black or camel.
NEUTRALIZE IT
One of the best ways to let a red coat shine is by keeping the rest of your outfit subtle and accessories neutral.
DRAPE IT
If you live in Los Angeles like I do then most winter is not quite cold enough for outerwear. Why not drape your coat over a simple bodycon dress for the perfect night out.
CINCH IT
Cinching the coat with a belt over a little black dress underneath can amp up the chic factor.
