All of a sudden September begins and change occurs. Did you feel it? I sure did. Fall is indeed around the corner and as we prepare our lives and our homes for a new season, it is a great excuse to change up our wardrobe to prepare for a new season. Here are my four easy steps to prepare my wardrobe for fall.
STEP 1 STORE AWAY OFF-SEASON ITEMS
The first thing that I do is store away any off-season items such as sandals, shorts, swimsuits, linen pants, and dresses, etc. If clothes and garments have been worn or used in any way, they should be cleaned first to remove sweat, lipstick, cosmetics, and perfume before they are put into long-term storage. If they are not removed from the clothing, these contaminants will change color over time and may permanently stain the fabric. I store my clothes and other items in these cotton storage boxes to preserve the longevity of the items.
STEP 2 ASSESS LAST YEAR’S FALL WARDROBE
My fall wardrobe from last year contained some aspects that I was happy with and can incorporate into my wardrobe this fall. I look at the kinds of outfits I wore on a day-to-day basis, what color scheme I used, and how I created those outfits. I have a few pairs of jeans that I can wear pretty much year round. There are certain pieces that are a bit too trendy that can be donated, which leads to step 3.
STEP 3 DONATE, CLEAN, OR REPAIR
After storing away the off-season items and assessing last year’s fall wardrobe, I would go through the items to determine if I can donate, clean, or repair. If the items no longer fit my style aesthetic and are still in great condition I donate to Salvation Army or Out of the Closet. I usually clean my fall clothes before putting them away but it is always a good idea to double check to make sure they are still clean. If not put them in the washer or take them to a cleaner. I usually have one or two pieces that need to be repaired or tailored.
STEP 4 SHOP FOR NEW ADDITIONS
What girl doesn’t love to shop for an entirely new wardrobe for the upcoming season?! As much as I love to buy an entirely new wardrobe for the upcoming season that would be economically irresponsible. I love adding a few trendy items from stores like Zara, H&M, ASOS, and TopShop to keep my look updated and fresh without putting a hole in my wallet.
