Who wants to pay for expensive gym memberships?  And who has the time to exercise when they have kids running around the house?  The truth is, having kids can be emotionally and physically taxing and draining.  This can take a toll not only on your health but also on your body.  Just because you are a mom does not mean you can’t stay or should not stay in shape.  Whether you are a stay-at-home or a working mom there are free and legit exercises out there that you can do at home and at your own leisure time.  You don’t need to waste time, gas and money by going to the gym.  All you need is a laptop with internet access, some planning and a little creativity to squeeze in some exercises that fit in your busy schedule.  You can do running and walking, Wii Fit, exercise DVDs, bike riding, or Yoga.  The easiest and least costly exercises for me are light jogging and Yoga.  I try to practice yoga 3 times a week and light jogging 2 times a week.

Yoga is great for building flexibility, strength and balance.  With two beefy boys I need that more than anything else.  It is also very calming and relaxing.  I allocate 55 – 75 minutes a session for 3 times a week.  I’m able to do this after the boys have gone to bed.  Their bedtime is set at 8pm.  I clean up the kitchen immediately after.  I’m ready for some yoga exercises (and have the laundry machines running at the same time) by 8:30pm.  Here are a couple YouTube clips that I’ve been following.  Believe me, they kick my butt big time every time!

Jogging is probably the easiest and most convenient form of exercise.  I know knee and shin pain can be an issue but by simply stretching before and after, and running on the balls of your feet with minimal hop in your step, it’s been known to eliminate knee and shin pain a great deal.   I have the flexibility to jog anywhere, at any time (well, usually schedule around the boys’ naptime).  My husband and I like to put our boys in a stroller and push them as we jog.  We also incorporate playtime with the boys at the park after jogging.  The boys are getting some exercises too.  We love it and the boys love it.  I can’t think of a better way of saving money and spending time with the family than this!  I hope you can find your routine and stay healthy and happy 🙂
