Happy Tuesday everyone!
I’m always on the lookout for the best skincare product, makeup, and anything that is beauty related…I would try and test. One of the most expensive beauty care that I spend my money on is my hair. My hair grows extremely fast and with at least 35% of gray hair, I need to trim and color my hair every 6 to 8 weeks. You can do the math in terms of my hair upkeep cost…ahh the virtue of looking beautiful!
For years, I’ve been using Perfect 10 (best over the counter hair color ever!) for my in between salon visits. The downside was that the color would fade after a few weeks and my hair would start to look brassy and dull. Nevertheless, I kept using this product. However, for the past few months I couldn’t find this product at any drugstores, Walmart, or Target because it’s been discontinued. I’ve been trying other products but none compared to Perfect 10. I even tried esalon.com. The color was good but it was $19.99 plus shipping and tax so that’s still very expensive. I wanted something better and last longer but less expensive.
A few months ago, I told my hairstylist about my dilemma and asked which product she has been using on my hair because it felt shiny and silky each time after the dye. She told me that she’s been using a professional brand from a German company called Schwar.. something. I immediately started searching on the internet to locate this company. Thanks to Google, I. FOUND. IT! The hair color was available on Amazon for $7.50 for a 2.1 oz. (1 application), and the creme developer for $18 for a 33.8 fl. oz (lasts up to 16 applications). The EXACT product that my hairstylist has been using on my hair all these years! Hello…why didn’t I ask sooner?!? So it would only cost me $8.62 for each application to achieve salon quality hair color….AWESOME!
Please allow me to introduce Schwarzkopf Royal Igora to you…
Mama’s Take:
Ok..I think I found the fountain of youth for my hair…really! This product is beyond AMAZING! I purchased the hair color in dark brown and the Developer in 6% in 20 volume. The first attempt was nerve racking because I had no clue what I was doing. I was afraid that my hair might turn red, purple, or blue but I took the risk anyway. The results were phenomenal…no brassiness but sleek and shiny. Excellent coverage on my gray hair. This is by far the BEST product I have ever used! What I love most about the product is that it has great consistency and easy on scalp and hair. And it has no drip, no stinging or bad smell and does not damage hair. I started using this hair color a couple months ago and I no longer need to dye my hair at the salon.
I just wanted to point out that I’m not a hair professional and that if you decide to try this product please read ALL the instructions carefully. You will need to purchase the hair developer (from the same brand recommended) because the dye can not penetrate the hair shaft without it, which causes the cuticle to lift. The developer’s strength comes in 10, 20, and 30. The lower numbers are less powerful and take longer to lift your hair. If your hair is really dark I would think you would need at least a 20 or 30. The shelf life of the creme developer can last from 2 to 3 years if kept in a cool dark place.

Thanks for the review Janise! I’m always on the lookout for at-home hair color with professional results. I’ve been doing my own color at home for years. I will definitely be trying this one out!
No problem 🙂

I love this brand – my colorist uses it on me too. You are very brave for trying at home! I have several friends and my mom do their own color – will definitely share with them. Good to know you can find it Amazon.
