I’m sharing my beauty upkeep because I’ve been getting a lot of emails about my skin care, makeup, and hair maintenance.   I haven’t really changed my routine since becoming a mom.  I will admit, however, that I have been looking into the Beauty Counter non-toxic skincare line lately.  What has changed is how I schedule my beauty upkeep around the boys’ routine.

 Skincare:

My skincare routine is very low maintenance.  I spend no more than 3 minutes each day washing my face and applying cream after.  I cleanse very well with Aveeno Positively Radiant Cleanser and use Josie Maran Argan Oil SPF40+ on my face during the day and Organic Purado Argan Oil at night.  I don’t use any eye creams because milia tends to develop around my eyes whenever I use it.  They stopped growing once I stopped using eye creams (yes…I tried eye gels…didn’t work!).   I recently started seeing a facialist once a month for micro-dermabrasion.  I should have done this in my 30s!!!

I do juice cleanses twice a week.  We put organic vegetables like beets, kale, & carrots (you can buy a big bag from Costco for really cheap) into the juicer (we bought ours at Walmart for $29 by GE).  Our twin boys love drinking it!

Makeup:

It takes me about 10 minutes to put my makeup on.  I keep my makeup very simple and neutral so that I don’t have to worry about clashing with any outfit that I choose to wear.  I don’t like to use heavy cakey foundation.  They tend to clog my pores.  My favorite brand, and I have been a royal customer for the past 7 years is Giorgio Armani Luminous Foundation….I’m addicted to this stuff…so light but great coverage.  I hardly wear any eye shadows…it’s because I have no clue how to apply it correctly.  I love using Mac’s eye gel called Fluidline.  I like to fill in my brows (I’m Asian so we hardly have any hair anywhere!) with Anastasia’s eyebrow kit.  I try to visit her once a year if she’s available.  For blush, I love Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour.  And lips, I like to keep my lips in a neutral color so I tend to use Nars Lip Lacquer in Chelsea Girls.

Haircare:

beauty upkeep

I noticed that the older I get the dryer my skin and hair get.  My hair is very straight and dull, so I wash my hair every other day.  Otherwise, my natural oils will weigh my hair down and make it more lifeless or oily.  I put Neuma Moisture Intense Masque (deep conditioning) on my hair twice a week.  I know it’s a bit excessive but it works for my hair type.  I make it a goal…actually more like a job/habit to deep condition twice a week.  On the days that I don’t mask my hair I put Moroccan Oil as a leave-in conditioner.  When do I have time to do this?  Yes, it’s after the boys’ bedtime, after cleaning up the kitchen, after the yoga session, after working on this blog, and then right before I go to bed.  This makes it easy and fast to style my hair first thing in the morning.  To style my hair, I use Davines Wizards No. 14 Sea Salt Primer and L’Oreal Elnett hairspray.  Sometimes, I put my hair in a loose bun or a ponytail. Lately, I’ve been sporting my hair half up.  This takes me 5 minutes or less to style and it doesn’t hurt my head.

Can you talk more about the juice cleanse? Do you just meal replace twice a week or do full-on all day juice, nothing else?

    Thank you!

OH!!! I shouldn’t have said Juice Cleanse. I (and the rest of the family) still eat 3 balanced meals every day. We drink this twice a week but still eat our regular meals….we can’t function without food!!!
