Happy 2014 everyone!

I’m so excited to share a new series called “Remix & Restyle!” with you.  I’ve been thinking a lot about this series whether you will find it useful and/or more work for me.  I hope it will be useful for you and less work for me!!!

I love fashion but spending money on healthy foods for the family is the priority.  That does not mean that I have completely neglected my love for fashion.  I tend to purchase items that can be worn year to year and sprucing them up with accessories to give them life again.  One of the ways to save money in fashion is to remix and restyle last season’s or vintage clothes.  I love shopping on various discounted online stores, vintage stores, and flea markets.  The challenge is to create an updated look with those items.  Instead of purchasing a new wardrobe every season I try to get creative with items that are already in my closet and just splurge on pieces that I can get more miles out of like the antique rings by Kalmar.

For each month, I will select an item from my closet and transition that piece into a look for that week.  By the end of the month, you will see how one piece can be worn in several ways simply by changing things up.  Not only will the piece feels like brand spanking new with each style, it is definitely a money saving-solution as well.

I hope this series will inspire you to restyle and get creative with your wardrobe from your closet and get excited about it again.  To start this series, I’d like to introduce the basic black turtleneck as my first item from my closet:

Basic Black Turtleneck: The plain top that is the perfect layering piece this season.

Price: $19.95

Condition: 2 years old

Wear to:  Casual friday, coffee/lunch/shopping with friends

  1. Great outfit, especially loving the jacket and necklace! I try not to spend much on clothes and accessories anymore and totally agree on taking one piece and creating several different looks.

  2. I love this idea for a blog series! I can’t wait to follow along.

This outfit looks fabulous! We are on a super tight budget this year so I think I’ll benefit from your fresh ideas.

  3. Gorgeous outfit Janise. Great idea. I try and do that, recycle my clothes. Adding different jewelry helps.
