Happy Hump day everyone!

Is public library a thing of the past?  Tablets and eReaders are cheap, available and much better than borrowing a book.   Due to lack of demand, will public libraries close just like the bookstores that we have been seeing for the past few years?

Last week, hubby and I took the boys to visit a local public library in our neighborhood.  I was in awe at what this public library had to offer.  The area was clean and as usual they still provide media services for the locals, blind and disabled.  They also provide free classes on new technology and spaces for community meetings.   What I did not expect to see was that the area for kids was a clean, state of the art, with lots of toys and computers for kids specific age.  Before the visit I told myself that libraries were exactly the way they were when I was 9.  However, after visiting this library it completely changed my mind.

Once we settled in the kids’ area, the boys immediately played with most of the toys and games.  While Dante trying to pick out a book to read or flip through the pages, Alexander went straight to the computer and tried to emulate his “Mama Working” by typing on the keyboard…LOL.  This area was much better than an indoor playground, which by the way, you have to pay a fee to get in.  Why pay when you can visit a kid friendly library for free at your own time and spend as many hours there as you wish.  I sure hope public libraries will stay longer because I can’t think of any other place that offer free education and safe playgrounds for my kids.

  2. Wow, thats a nice library. I will need to check out our local library again. The last we were there was before we had kids, and the librarian scared me. Hopefully shes not there anymore.

  3. Our grandchildren love going to the library. I hope libraries will not disappear I think they are essential. Thank you for helping to make the Thursday Favorite Things Blog hop so much fun. Big Hugs ♥
