Happy Monday everyone!  I hope your weekend treated you well.

I’ve been MIA from the blog and social media for a week not only because my schedule was crazy busy but my laptop was lifeless.  Maybe it was a good thing for me.  Maybe it was to give me time to rest, become focused and clear about keeping life simple and uncomplicated.   Or, maybe, simply, it was a sign to tell me to slow down and celebrate my downtime with my husband and kids more than before.

Whatever the case, it was a really nice break and I took advantage of that downtime fully.  Almost every night we visited different facilities and locations to seek for summer activities for the twins: from karate classes to swimming lessons.

As a parent you naturally want what is best for your kids but finding the right balance is crucial.  No, we are not the Tiger parents but we want to support our kids whichever path they want to choose in life.  They are only 5 so they should be kids and have fun while going through the growing pain stage.  But as parents we want to see them grow up to be these responsible, independent, hard working individuals who can contribute to society and help others.

There are a number of activities that we want the boys to partake this summer but that would be too overwhelming in our opinion. So we narrowed the list down to weekly Chinese school (they are half Chinese, enuf said), swimming lessons (survival skills and the boys absolutely love to swim!), and weekly unstructured gymnastics (free roaming so they can socialize with other kids and burn energy at the same time).

We really wanted to enroll the boys in Karate because this sport fosters self-discipline, increased self-esteem, instills a sense of respect not to mention it would encourage physical activity.  For now we are crossing this out from the list because they are still too young.  Good grief, I think 3 activities are more than plenty for kids this age….REALLY!

I sincerely believe that spending time with our loved ones is a most priceless investment.  Taking time out from the blog helped me to settle my thoughts and regain a clear understanding of what step both hubby & I should take next, especially when it concerns our kids.

Unplugging from the internet once in a while is not a bad thing, it is actually good for your health.  Unfortunately, for me, it required a device not working to remind myself of that because I have been so “in” it.  This incident taught me to be cognizant and aware of the importance of time and where it should be better spent.

Thank you New Balance for these amazing Kids 990v4 shoes so the twins can embark on their summer in comfort and style!

Yes, it is not easy but it’s good to take time off once in a while. Thanks for stopping by, Megan!

  1. I’m also a mommy of twin5-year-olds! We adopted our energetic twin girls and are doubly blessed. They take my full attention when they are home from school and awake. Although exhausting, I wouldn’t change it for anything! The balancing act of hubby, kids, friends, home, and personal time is very difficult. We cherish our family time and make that priority. My hubby and I still have a date nite every week to enjoy time just the 2 of us.

Really?! We need to connect! It’s really tough to balance hubby, kids, friends, and everything else. Kudos to you guys to be able to have date night every week. We’ve been able to do that once a month and sometimes we would have to skip due to our busy schedules.

Thank you for stopping by, Amy!
