RUFFLESRuffles have been flouncing around since the 16th century.  Ok, well this trend was a major comeback last spring but it is still going on strong.

The great thing about ruffles is that this trend looks great on every body type, even if you are petite or big boned.  The trick is to look for a subtler ruffle style that won’t add too much volume.

Yes, ruffles can add an ultra-femininity feel but what girl doesn’t want to feel that way always, especially in spring/summer?  I know I do. What better way to welcome warmer temperatures than with this light and airy dress?  I want to dance in it all night long or walk along the beach all day.

If you are over forty like me and want to try this trend without going overboard, I highly recommend rocking the trend in unexpected iterations—like on the sleeves of a striped t-shirt, at the hem of a wrap skirt, or on the strap of the sandal.

Trying new trends is a great way to add value to your wardrobe to keep you fresh and fun for every occasion including this ruffles trend.  Each season, I usually incorporate a few trendy pieces into my wardrobe to update my look.  I tend to shop at places like H&M, Topshop, and ASOS so I don’t have to put a hole in my wallet.

  1. Dear Janice,

What a wonderful dress. I am a huge fan of both dresses and ruffles, so this is an outfit to my heart as you will understand. I think that the white colour suits you very well and I absolutely love the length of this dress. I don’t think it is a practical one for me, since I cycle to work, but I have got a life outside the classroom too and for that it would be a perfect choice. Thank you for the inspiration.

    Love, Lieske

  2. I love this dress* but I consider it a piece that has an asterisk. I have a problem wearing dresses, shirts, and wraps that are too low cut in the front. The asterisk involves what I have to do extra to be able to wear a piece. I have a big problem finding the perfect cami for under each individual piece that does this. Looking at this dress, it would be too hard to match a white cami, a black one would be too harsh and distracting, and it would be hard to pick the perfect print. There are no good sewing solutions on Pinterest. Any suggestions how to cover up more without ruining the look of this piece?

      Hi Christine,

This particular wrap dress has a tiny silver button on top that is not visible and keeps the neckline stay put. In these pictures I had a black cami underneath…I chose a plain lace black color because that would match the tiny polka dots pattern of this dress. You can hardly see it but yet it gives me the comfort of knowing that my girls are not showing.

      • That’s what is peeking out! Good choice! It would probably look good with even more of the cami showing.

Yeah…with a cami underneath I don’t feel as if I’m showing too much skin..there’s a safety net but with a slight peek of sexiness…
