honeymoon destinationHubby and I never had our honeymoon (stay with me I will get there).   We met 11 years ago on a Mediterranean Sea cruise near Naples, Italy.  I was a passenger and he was one of the crew members (a singer) on the ship.  We were destined to meet; a friend and myself had made plans to travel by train and staying at different hotels but that would cost an arm and a leg so we booked a cruise instead and at the same time hubby declined the same singing contract 3 times but decided to accept it because it kept throwing back at him.

Fast forward 3 years later we were engaged and have visited at least 11 countries together.  A year after that we eloped and at the same time welcomed our twin boys.  We put the kibosh on the honeymoon immediately because of the twins and other financial priorities

Since then we have made every effort to travel to see other places with our twins with our most recent trip to the Baltic Sea countries.  I guess traits are passed on through DNA because our twins already asked about our next travel destination, Macchu Picchu.  Obviously, both hubby and I love to travel and we are so happy that our kids love it too.

We both feel that traveling is the best education our kids will ever have.  There’s no doubt that school is important because that’s where they learn basic skills and subjects to get into college.  However, traveling and visiting other countries can enhance their learning abilities from history to different languages/cultures.

We also feel that it is important to vacation without the kids once in a while.  Don’t get me wrong we love our kids like crazy but we can never forget that we loved each other first and we need to continue with that path. After all, we both met while traveling.

Lately, we’ve been having discussions about having our delayed honeymoon somewhere where both of us have never been to before.  Italy came up time and time again. We’ve been to Rome, Naples, Venice, Pisa, Sorrento, Pompeii, Capri, and Sicily but would love to visit other parts of Italy like Milan, La Spezia, Positano, Lake Como, and Tuscany.

We’ve been wanting to honeymoon under the Tuscan sun.  Tuscany is a region centered in Italy that has spectacular medieval hill towns, historic cities and art, great wine and food, beaches, and a beautiful countryside.  While in Tuscany we can also visit nearby places like Milan, La Spezia, and Lake Como by train.

Our ideal honeymoon is to be able to spend time at a decadent villa in Tuscany preferably this place,  wake up every morning and have breakfast in the backyard terrace, strolling through delicious restaurants and cafes for lunch/dinner, shop at the quaint shops in the lazy afternoons, wine tasting at different wineries and climb to the top of the Duomo during sunset for incredible views.

I think Anthony Bourdain said it best when it comes to traveling, “ Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.”

My travel journey has definitely changed me. I met the love of my life and father of my kids. That definitely left a mark on my memory, on my consciousness, on my heart, and on my body.  I was a single woman then but took a man from there and left my footprints in Italy.  This time I would like to honeymoon in Tuscany near Naples in Italy with the same man and leave both of our footprints there as husband and wife.

And the pictures? Wow. How old are your twins now? That’s pretty impressive that they’re already asking about Machu Pichu.
