Back in May, I announced my collaboration with Chase Freedom Unlimited to share my journey to reach my personal 2019 goals – creating and sharing video content.

As part of the process, I shared my Always Earning SMART goals to reach my personal goals. So far, I have successfully completed quite a few milestones towards achieving them. I had some challenges and setbacks along the way, but I was eventually able to complete them as scheduled.

Today I want to share what I did to complete those milestones, overcome the challenges, and reach my goals – the secret sauce, if you will. Just like my favorite recipe, it took the right blend of ingredients to reach my desired goals of telling stories through video.

As you are aware, I have a full-time job and moonlight as a blogger while raising my 8-year-old twin boys with my husband.

In July I dedicated 3% of my day (43 minutes) towards working on the tasks to reach my goals.

I consistently review my tasks and cross them off my weekly to-do lists. For the items that I can’t finish within a week, I set aside more time and make a plan to finish them. To keep myself focused and motivated in completing these tasks to reach my goals, I celebrate each completed milestone either by going out for a nice dinner with the family or buying myself a pair of shoes using my Chase Freedom Unlimited cash back credit card. Earning 1.5% cash back on every purchase makes rewarding myself even sweeter.

It was not easy when I first started this process. To be honest with you, vlogging is probably one of the most difficult projects I have ever worked on – there’s so much involved in constructing a 5-minute video to tell a compelling story. It took me almost 2 hours to film what I needed and another 2 hours to edit for the desired results. Needless to say, I had a number of long nights, burning the midnight oil to finally create the video I wanted to share with you all.

After completing my pilot video, I realized that my YouTube channel needed a theme song that represents Mama in Heels. I also realized that I need to do a much better job at recording videos. I was hoping to share my first video (about my trip to Argentina!) with you all in November but had to push back the release to better stabilize my footage. Let’s just say I got vertigo just by going through the first few shots. My goal is to shoot more videos and launch my channel in October, so stay tuned for that!

I could not have done this without the help and support from my family, especially my husband.  I feel incredibly blessed that my family is providing me with the support I need to reach my 2019 goals.  I feel empowered knowing that I get to create stories visually to inspire women like you. Although I have passed many milestones so far, I understand that I will establish new ones as I move along.  My video content is not perfect and will always need improvement to adapt to the evolving needs of technology and my audience. I can’t wait to share what I create with you.

  1. Love your blog, wasn’t sure how you felt about sharing your full credit card number in the picture?
    Including the expiration date.
Best of luck on the video series.

Thank you for your concern. This is a mock-up card :=)

  2. I can relate to your story. It’s really hard and challenging at first. I am not going to lie. I’m not saying right now the process is perfect but it’s a lot better than it has ever been. Even to this day, I have things in my business that don’t go right. Great post Janise!

It’s been really tough for me and I’m still juggling. But I think the important thing is that we are learning as we go and it would only make us more wiser!

  3. Love these financial goals! Thank you for being honest that sometimes we don’t achieve our financial goals but we always have the opportunity to get back on track.

Yes, because it’s natural we get distracted or re-setting our priorities but as long as we go with the path we had set we will ultimately get there!

  4. I’d love to try the 3% of my day to work on tasks; it sounds doable. The majority of the time, we set ourselves up with our to-do’s that we end up going in circles all day without achieving much.

  5. Okay, so this blog post was just what I needed to read. I can relate and I admire how you are able to juggle it all. I know it can’t be easy. You have earned yourself a new fan for sure. Thank you for sharing 🙂

Very nice blog..! Good luck with the video.. 😘 You did a very great job in spite of the fact that you only use 3% of the day.

  10. Kudos with the vlog and making videos as it is something I have yet to attempt because it feels like such a time suck. You have been so focussed and achieved what you set out to do and I wish you all the best for your continued growth.
